Bio
I have always been fascinated by art and design, which led me to obtain diplomas in Design and Fine Arts, as well as studies in Psychology and Art Therapy.
While studying, I held many jobs including working as a day labourer on different small construction sites which helped me understand the value of each person on a worksite. I have also been hands on in the (ongoing) renovation of our Victorian triplex in Montreal.
While I was completing my honours degree in Fine Arts, I presented works as a contemporary artist in a couple of galleries across Canada and curated a few shows in Ottawa.
Eventually, I decided to establish my own design studio in Montreal, Jean Stéphane Beauchamp Design, where I could bring together my different experiences.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working on a variety of exciting projects, ranging from small to large-scale endeavours with clients from every walk of life. These include residential projects such as condos, city homes, secondary residences, andeven a few select commercial projects. I have worked on projects all over Quebec, Canada, the US, Mexico and Portugal. Will travel for good design.
My approach to design is guided by a few core principles:
Function: Every design element must serve a practical purpose while contributing to the overall aesthetic. I love to cook and designing kitchens is one of my strong suits.
Beauty: I strive to create unique spaces that inspire and delight (and even surprise), mixing styles and different elements.
Sustainability: When possible, I prioritise sustainable practices to create spaces that are both beautiful and kind to the environment.
Respect: Each relationship with a client and all the amazing trades and suppliers is based upon mutual respect.

Community

I also had the honour of being chosen by Décormag and The Canadian Cancer Society to design a large common space at the Maison Jacques Cantin in Montreal.
Process:
Ideally, working together from the very start generates the best results. This will give you an idea of the process from start to finish.
Getting to know you and the space
- A quick conversation to see if we are right together.
 - First meeting: establish my role in your project and break everything down into phases. We will also discuss budget to determine the feasibility of the project scope.
 - Measuring the space, design, some sourcing, plans, and first draft.
 - Presentation of first draft.

Getting things done and finished
- Adjusting the plan, putting together all the project details, and setting the stage for executing the design with all the right people.
 - Finalizing all the details and plans.
 - Construction phase. Purchases, coordination, site visits…
 - Final touches, décor, and styling.

Other options:
Consultation (in person or virtual): helping you by answering your questions to get you on track or start a collaboration. Everything in between. Each client, each project, and each budget is different. We can create a collaboration that suits your needs.
